What 2018 has taught me

Monday, 31 December 2018

Now that 2018 is drawing to a close, I’m starting to feel a little reflective of the year. Firstly, as I’m writing this I am feeling a little ashamed with how neglectful I have been of my little site, the reasons as to why I may explain in a future post but I am aiming to consistently write on here in 2019. Posts will be written and planned in advance, who knows about photography though as that’s what I’ve struggled the most with. Personally, I feel I’ve grown a lot this year which has helped me gain a little perspective on a few things too.

Ways to source your clothes more ethically

Apologies for the short break, but uni work seemed to get on top of me this term since I've officially started my final undergrad year! A while ago I did a post about how you could show your support and passion for causes through your wardrobe choices, that you could pledge support through thinking carefully about what you wear. Recently I’ve re-read this post and thought more on the topic of fashion and charity; not only that but the impact that the fashion industry itself has on the environment. The fashion industry is the second largest polluting industry in the world, only second to the fossil fuel, fast fashion especially is responsible for a large part of this. This impact started me thinking about my own wardrobe choices and the ways that I could minimise my own fashion carbon footprint which I have now decided to share with you.

August favourites

Wednesday, 5 September 2018

Another month seems to have gone by too quickly, I feel like a typical blogger or vlogger saying this but where has the year gone?? The summer has moved quickly since I’ve been working for most of it but this year has flown by so quickly. Makes me scared to think I’m going into my third year of uni in a month. The end of this month though means another favourites post! With work I’ve not been able to try and test many new products, but I’ve still gotten hold of enough things to love. (If that makes any sense…)

First on the list is clothing, now this month I’ve not actually bought much new clothing but I have got really into shopping second hand and in charity shops! I’ve recently decided to try and turn my style more classic, but that doesn’t mean I ignore the bargain of topshop jeans for £3 in a local store. Charity shops have become my new clothing/shop love with some of the gems you can find for such a low price. Of course, the mom jean bargain are the main favourite from this but ultimately it was hunting in a charity shop that brought them to me.

This month I went to the cinema multiple times for once which is pretty rare for me these days since the cinema is pricey and I am a student. I have two favourite films just because I can’t seem to decide on just one, firstly Christopher Robin was a firm favourite despite having some flaws because it was just too cute. The message was sweet and the animals even sweeter so what’s not to love about that. My other favourite only came out about a week ago and that was the spy who dumped me. Now, I love Kate Mckinnon and she does not disappoint at all in this film; joined by Mila Kunis they make a surprisingly good comedic duo and deliver joke after joke in such a brilliant way. At some points the script did fall a little but mostly overall it did prove to be a hilarious take on spy films.

Now the round of entertainment will be a lot bigger than usual since it isn’t just addressing what I’ve been binging on Netflix since I’ve reignited my enjoyment for a tech-based form of entertainment. In the form of apps, I’ve been really enjoying playing pokemon go again. Now I know, it’s pretty lame now compared to when it first came out, but having the generation of pokemon available to catch that I had on my Gameboy makes it better. The new features of trading and raids also make the game a lot more interactive with friends, I just find it a shame that the game didn’t release these features from the offset since it would have stayed a lot bigger for longer if it had done so.

In the way of Netflix I’ve been really enjoying crime based shows, my favourite being whitechapel. Whitechapel is a fairly old show in the way of what’s new on Netflix since it’s an itv drama from 2008, but it’s so good! The first series centres around a copycat killer of Jack the Ripper and it’s one of the most gripping shows I’ve binged for a while, in one day I got through two series of it and I don’t have a single regret about it!

My favourite blogs this month haven’t so much been particular posts but blogs that I’ve enjoyed reading week after week. Those blogs I would have to say are Ruthinrevolt and Jennyinneverland, the posts from these two women are so well written that their blogs are honestly a joy to read. Not only that, they are such lovely people, the kind of people that really stand out in the blogging community for just being kind. I’ve only interacted with them over twitter and in facebook groups, but if there is anything you take from this post to try out or do then I recommend it’s giving these lovely ladies a follow.

What she did: Tales from Good Night Stories For Rebel Girls

Thursday, 9 August 2018

Thought I’d use a disclaimer to start the post, just to say any grammatical or spelling errors are down to me writing this on my phone whilst on a train. I didn’t fancy lugging my laptop down to London for a flat viewing so the notes app on my phone will do for now. Disclaimer aside, let’s get down to business and continue on with the post. Anyone else get Li Shang from Mulan in their head singing that phrase or is it just me?

Anyway, back to the post, two months ago for my birthday I received a copy of Good Night Stories For Rebel girls since I’d been going on about it for ages. Although it’s a book marketed for children, as an adult I adore it. The stunning illustrations and stories of heroic women are just amazing, which is why I want to share some of those stories with you today. I just think these women deserve more recognition since I didn’t know about them until reading this book and you might not have too. Good Night Stories for rebel girls though isn't just special for the stories it told but the story of how it was made since it's the most funded original book in the history of crowdfund! I thought I'd share just a few stories of some women that I hadn't heard of before picking up this book.

My First Time...

Sunday, 5 August 2018

I thought I’d carry on the over-done youtube and blog post formats that I set by doing a favourites post by doing a tag as my next post. This tag hits clickbait on the nose with its title of the first time, but I think we all know by now it’s not a blow by blow documentation of how the creator lost their virginity. I saw this tag on JennyinNeverland’s blog a few weeks ago and just thought it seemed like a fun way to get to know the person behind the blog. Who doesn’t love a tag every now and then anyway? Let’s crack on with the questions.

July Favourites

Wednesday, 1 August 2018

Hey everyone, it’s that time of the month! Not THAT time of the month but an equally dreaded one for people trying to save money and shy away from blogger recommended products. That’s right, I’m coming at you with a favourites post! Without further ado, enjoy or don’t enjoy reading about what I’ve been loving in the month of July.

Having the courage to be kind

Wednesday, 18 July 2018
Top: New look Skirt: Topshop similar shoes: Primark

There’s a line in the live-action Cinderella, her mantra that she lives by, ‘have courage and be kind’ and honestly, it’s one of those film quotes that I think people should live their lives by. I’m assuming everyone does live their life by it though considering how often it appears in calligraphy quote form on pinterest. Just because you have it pinned to a quotes board doesn’t mean you necessarily live by it; being kind is something that should be second nature to us, just doing little things to make others feel better or have a better day.

Little random acts of kindness and selflessness are honestly some of the best things you can do just to improve the mood of others and by extension your overall mood too. Acts of kindness are selfless and can be rather simple since it is the little things that add up, whether that act be taking time to comment on someone’s insta post or donating unwanted clothes to a charity shop. If that person is having a bad day these little smiles and compliments can really help them get through said bad day; even if they’re having a good day the little compliments help.

A Guide To Bled

Thursday, 12 July 2018

This post is one that has only recently been planned since I’ve only just come back from my trip and is inspired by Jordan’s post on her own trip to Amsterdam. I loved the style she went with in her post since it outlined the cost of the trip, meaning you can work out if your budget fits the experiences/ activities shown in the post. You may not have heard of Bled unless someone you know has already been there, it's a small town and lake in Slovenia, just outside of Ljubliana.
